Primary Tutor of the Year 2025

This recognition celebrates my work providing specialised Maths, English, and entrance exam preparation for children aged 5-14 from my purpose-built classroom in Stock, Essex. With over 20 years of teaching experience and a 100% success rate for entrance examinations, I’m honoured to receive this national acknowledgment.

Thank you to all the students, parents, and supporters who have made this achievement possible.

Three years ago, I was broken. Burnout had taken everything from me — my confidence, my passion, my sense of purpose. I genuinely thought my teaching days were over. But sometimes the darkest moments lead us to the people and places that help us find our way back.Last July, I was honoured to receive the Primary Tutor of the Year 2025 award at the National Tutoring Awards — and I still have moments where it doesn’t feel quite real. I’m incredibly proud, but I also know this: moments like that don’t happen in isolation.A huge part of my comeback has been the support of The Tutors’ Association — and the work they do to champion tutors, raise standards, and create a community where we can learn, grow, and feel understood. When you’re rebuilding after burnout, having a professional home matters. Having people who “get it” matters. They help tutors feel less alone, more confident, and more connected to the purpose behind the work.In my classroom, surrounded by laughter and lightbulb moments, I’ve found that sense of belonging again. Every child who walks through my door reminds me this isn’t just a job — it’s a calling. And organisations like The Tutors’ Association help protect and strengthen that calling, for tutors everywhere. To anyone facing their own mountain right now: your comeback story is still being written. The distance between where you are and where you’re meant to be isn’t measured in miles — it’s measured in courage, one step at a time.Thank you to every parent, student, fellow educator — and to The Tutors’ Association for the support, guidance, and community you provide to tutors across the country. That award may have my name on it, but it represents something bigger: what’s possible when we’re supported to keep going. Here’s to going the distance, together. #NationalTutoringAwards #PrimaryTutorOfTheYear #TutorsAssociation #Tutoring #Education #BurnoutRecovery @tutorsassociation @tutorsassoc@thetutorsassociation @the tutors association #TTACommunityDay #TTA ... Why This Certificate Means Everything 🎓 Proud to display my The Tutors' Association certificate in my waiting room! As an independent tutor, this certificate represents far more than just a membership - it symbolises my unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards in education. The Tutors' Association has been instrumental in shaping my journey, from ensuring all the essential foundations (enhanced DBS, insurance, safeguarding training) to celebrating achievements like winning last year's Primary Tutor Award. What truly sets the Association apart is its vibrant community. The networking events and Q&A sessions have been invaluable, providing answers and insights that have helped me navigate the challenges of independent tutoring. I've learned that success in this field is directly proportional to positive engagement - the more you invest, the more you grow. My goal isn't to be the biggest tutoring company or the most prominent voice - it's to represent the perspective of dedicated independent tutors who, like me, are passionate about making a difference in children's lives.I don’t have the largest social media following, but what I do have is genuine enthusiasm for improving the tutoring experience for both educators and students. Because at the end of the day, it's about the children we teach and the positive impact we can make in their educational journey. Here's to continuing to raise the standards of tutoring, one lesson at a time! 📚✨ @tutorsassociation @tutorsassoc @thetutorsassociation @the tutors association #TTACommunityDay # TTA ... Parent Testimonials

★★★★★
Mr O’Keefe is an enthusiastic, encouraging and supportive teacher. He makes learning fun and definitely knows how to get the best out of his students.

M Redburn

★★★★★
Mr O’Keefe taught both our boys and we can honestly say that he was the most inspiring teacher our children have ever had.  Not only does he make learning fun, he finds innovative ways to interact with the pupils and gives them the confidence to succeed. Our boys absolutely thrived in his classes both academically and personally and we truly believe he has given them the best foundation to build upon going forward, and more importantly to believe in themselves.  We would not hesitate to recommend Mr O’Keefe.

M Francis

★★★★★
Our children were lucky enough to be taught by Mr O’Keefe in a previous school and when we discovered he was privately tutoring we jumped at the chance to contact him. Mr O’Keefe’s purpose built classroom is bright, colourful and inviting. He has a wonderful way with children and makes learning fun whilst producing fantastic results. He is kind, patient and has been instrumental in both of our children overcoming their educational challenges.
